Small series injection molding Ideal for 100 to 100,000 injection molded parts

A coherent concept, short throughput times and high output quantities - this is how Solidtec produces plastic parts in small batches and pre-series. With our specialized small series injection moulding, we offer you an economical solution for producing high-quality components in small to medium quantities. For very small quantities and functional samples, we recommend our prototype injection molding.

Quality is our top priority. Especially when producing plastic parts in small batches, it is crucial that the tool inserts are particularly robust. Our design engineers therefore ensure right from the planning stage that the tools are also designed for larger quantities. Depending on the material, up to 100,000 injection molded parts can be produced in small series.

Thanks to the combination of our modular Solidtec master mold system and state-of-the-art automation, our plastic injection molding for small batches is particularly cost-efficient. The possible output quantity depends on the material used - you can find a list of processed plastics here.

Is the series mold not ready in time? Or do you need spare parts at short notice? No problem! Our flexible molds make it possible to quickly compensate for parts bottlenecks. Convince yourself of Solidtec as your reliable partner for the small series production of plastic parts.

Small series injection molding: advantages at a glance

Are you looking for an economical injection molding process for small batches of up to 100,000 plastic parts? Or an alternative to 3D printing that is more cost-effective for larger quantities? Then plastic injection molding for small batches with Solidtec is just right for you!

With high-strength aluminum tools from our own tool shop, we create the ideal basis for your plastic parts in small series. Short throughput times and an optimized cost-benefit ratio make our small series injection moulding the perfect solution.

The result: materials and surfaces similar to those used in large-scale production, but at a fraction of the cost. A small series is significantly more economical than 3D printing from as few as 100 injection-molded parts. This means that production using small series injection molding at Solidtec offers an unbeatable price-performance ratio.

This is why small-batch injection molding is the best choice for manufacturing your plastic parts:

  • Economical: Production of 100 to 100,000 plastic parts and more.
  • Series quality: High-quality materials and surfaces just like in large-scale production.
  • Flexible: Cost-effective adjustments to the tool are possible.
  • Time-saving: Short delivery times thanks to optimized processes.
  • Alternative to 3D printing: cheaper from approx. 100 pieces.

Frequently asked questions about small injection molding series

What is injection molding for small series?

Injection molding for small series involves the production of plastic parts in comparatively small quantities, typically between 100 and 100,000 parts. This process makes it possible to produce high-quality plastic parts in small batches efficiently and cost-effectively.

What advantages does injection molding offer for small series compared to other manufacturing processes?

Small-series injection molding offers several advantages:

  • Cost-effectiveness: for quantities of around 100 parts or more, injection molding is often more cost-effective than processes such as 3D printing.
  • Series quality: The material and surface quality of the manufactured parts are the same as those of large series production.
  • Flexibility: Adjustments to the aluminum tool can be made with manageable effort.

With small series injection molding, we fill the niche between 3D printing and large series production.

What are the costs for a small injection molding series?

The costs for a small injection molding series are mainly made up of the following components:

  • Tooling cost: The production of the aluminum injection mold is a major cost factor.
  • Part price: The production cost per part, which depends on factors such as material, cycle time and quantity.
  • Set-up costs: Costs for setting up the machine and starting production.

By using aluminum tools, tool costs and production time can be reduced in low-volume injection molding, resulting in lower overall costs.

How long does it take to produce a small injection-molded series?

The production time for a small series in injection molding depends on several factors, including the complexity of the component, the number of parts required and the current production capacity utilization. As a rule, once the mold has been completed, the parts can be produced within a few days to weeks. Through the use of aluminium tools and optimized processes, lead times can be further reduced.

How many parts can I get from you? What are the maximum output quantities from aluminum tools?

The biggest limiting factor for the maximum output quantity is usually the plastic material used for the component. Some materials tend to be soft, flexible and less abrasive, meaning that a high number of injection molding cycles and plastic parts are possible.

The maximum output quantities from aluminum tool inserts are largely dependent on the plastic materials used. The mold temperature and filler content of the material are particularly important here. They have a significant influence on the output quantity of small injection molded series.

The following values, for example, can be used as a guide for the maximum output quantities from single-cavity molds:

  • Unfilled PP: 70,000 pieces
  • Unfilled ABS / POM / PA / PC: 50,000 pieces
  • PA6 with 30 % glass bead filling: 40,000 pieces
  • PA with 10 % glass fiber filling: 30,000 pieces
  • PA with 30 % glass fiber filling: 40,000 pieces
  • PPS: 2,000 pieces
  • PEEK: 1,000 pieces

How do you differentiate between prototype and small series tools? From what quantity do you speak of small series tools?

This usually happens at our customers' premises and is not tied to a certain component quantity. In some cases, our customers know right from the start of development that their product will never reach the scale of a large series with several hundred thousand components and that a large series tool is not economically viable. In this case, the small series begins with the production of the first sample components.

We are aware that our customers use the plastic parts from our aluminium tools for their series production. We have naturally internalized these quality requirements and know that we can meet them with components from our aluminium tools.

Themajorityofprototype components have already been given their name by our customers, namely precisely when the development phase with components made from aluminum tools is restricted by a time limit - precisely because in the background there is a continuation of the products in a large series. Most customers have gained all the valuable insights from the development phase after 300 to 1,000 prototype components.

It also happens that we use the plastic components from our aluminum tools for a series production start-up.
