Additive manufacturing: a quick introduction
When initial functional prototypes are required or only a small number of components need to be produced, additive manufacturing is often the most cost-effective solution. Unlike traditional injection moulding, no mould is required. This means that prototypes and one-off items can be produced in a very short space of time.
Particularly in the early stages of development, additive manufacturing enables rapid concept studies, functional prototypes and initial component testing. As soon as larger quantities are required, prototype injection moulding using rapid tooling is the ideal next step towards series production.
